NEW YORK, N.Y. — One year ago today, a movement began in New York that would lead to weeks of huge protests around the nation and the world. Hundreds of protesters kicked off a widespread social movement known as Occupy Wall Street. The "Occupy" protests spread to dozens of cities across the U.S. and went global. The messages have ranged from protecting the environment to opposing education costs. The overriding theme, condemning income inequality and social injustice. Protesters returned to New York over the weekend. Police say so far they arrested about 40 people. To mark today's anniversary, occupy organizers say they will gather at four spots in upper Manhattan and will attempt to form a human chain around the New York stock exchange as an act of civil disobedience. Police say they're expecting to make more arrests.
