NY Lawmaker Fighting Airlines for Charging Families More Money
Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) asked the U.S. Dept. of Transportation to issue rules that would prevent airlines from charging parents more money to sit next to their young children.
Newschannel 9 brought you this story last week; some airlines have added fees for aisle and window seats. The fees vary by airline, but cost about $25 extra each way.
Sen. Schumer is also asking the airline industry's trade group to require carriers to voluntarily waive the fee for families.
The New York lawmaker said airline fees shouldn't serve as a literal barrier between mother and child.
