El Paso - Seven term incumbent Norma Chavez will no longer represent El Paso at the Texas Statehouse.

Challenger Naomi Gonzalez defeated Chavez in Tuesday's runoff election.

Chavez met with supporters at Speaking Rock.

She said she would grant us a live interview on NewsChannel 9 at 10 but later changed her mind.

Chavez briefly emerged from the casino to talk with us in the parking lot.

While trailing Gonzalez by 200 votes throughout the evening, Chavez thanked her supporters.

We asked her about her campaign which many described as negative...

"We worked hard and we tried to get the voters to understand that I had a record in the community. It was a hard race but the race was not about issues, it was about personalities, it was about attacking me but we are going to take the decision of voters. There are a lot of boxes in the valley still out. All of us are staying here the whole night."

There is no Republican challenger so Naomi Gonzalez will begin to represent District 76 at the statehouse in Austin starting in January.
