No pay raises for Texas lawmakers
AUSTIN, TEXAS — Texas lawmakers won't be getting a pay raise this year. According to the Texas Tribune, the state's ethics commissions shot down a proposal to raise legislator salaries. Lawmakers currently receive $7,200 a year in addition to a per diem every day the legislature is in session. The per diem is meant to help defray living costs while legislators are away from home. The proposal would have raised the per diem from $150 to $179 dollars a day, but the commission defeated the proposal on a six to two vote.
