NMSU headed to San Jose for NCAA Tournament
LAS CRUCES, N.M. — The New Mexico State Aggies are going to the NCAA tournament for the second consecutive season and learned who their opponent will be at a Selection Show watch party Sunday afternoon.
The Aggies are facing St. Louis Thursday in San Jose California.
"We feel great after winning the WAC," said Senior Bandja Sy. "The only you can feel is great."
The automatic bid comes from back-to-back WAC tournament championships the last two seasons.
"It's still a little surreal right now," said Head Coach Marvin Menzies.
Coach Menzies said he hasn't had a chance to study up on the St. Louis Billikens, but the tight tournament schedule doesn't mean they won't be prepared.
"We'll put all our focus on St. Louis, give them the best effort and see where the chips may fall," Menzies said.
Sy said he doesn't know much about their opponent either, but is looking forward to getting back on the court.
"Just checked on my phone real quick and I saw they beat Butler twice VCU, so it's going to be a pretty good matchup for us," Sy said.
The team is young but with the experience from last year on the current roster Menzies said that has helped.
"That's one of the reasons why I think we're back cause we've had big time experience the last few years," Menzies said.
