NMSU football field getting new turf
Las Cruces, NM (KTSM) — New turf is being installed inside Aggie Memorial Stadium.
Last week the project came to a halt because burrowing owls dug into a corner of the field.
An NMSU professor has been monitoring the birds nesting, making sure they go unharmed.
Construction has started with artificial burrows being installed on the east slope of the field so that the owls can still keep their home.
As we reported, a $1 million donation from businessman Stan Fulton is making the new turf possible.
The project is scheduled to be complete in mid-August, just in time for football season.
