El Pasoans and New Mexico residents alike will say their final goodbyes today to New Mexico Governor Susana Martinez's father.

Jacobo "Jake" Martinez who is an El Paso native, died last week at the age of 80.

Reports say back in the day he was a three-time Golden Gloves winner in the 1950s as an amateur boxer. Governor Susan Martinez's late father served as a Deputy Sheriff in El Paso County and was a Korean war veteran. Authorities say her father died after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's disease.

This is the second year Martinez is serving as New Mexico Governor. Prior to that, she spent several year as the District Attorney in Las Cruces.

The late veteran's funeral will be held at Saint Raphael Church at 10 AM. His burial will follow at Fort Bliss Cemetery.

The family is asking that instead of flowers, to donate money to the Alzheimer's Association.
