NM Death Penalty Debate

A bill just passed by New Mexico lawmakers would get rid of the death penalty if Governor Bill Richardson signs it into law.
But not everyone thinks that is a good idea.

Life behind bars?
NO!
Would you spend money on a house guest that never leaves?
It's already (bad) enough that the prison system is completely full, let alone that many stay on "Death Row" for years upon years, paid completely by us the Taxpayer.
(IMO) - If you are sentenced to death, then death be it, and it should be carried out quickly, and efficiently.
When should it be considered?:
That will fall, as it always has, to the courts to decide.
I believe that the Death Penalty should be implemented under those specific cases were there is no doubt (no question) that the person who committed the crime deserves to be expired.
Each case is different of course and we know what cases deserve such a judgement.
However, this also has it pros and cons...
Pros -
Because you are taking care of the issue at hand quickly, justice is served, and we are not letting prisoners remain in comfortable surroundings, with 3 squares, clothing, and opportunities to continue their criminal activities from jail, and also use that environ to "use" the system against the guards and eventually learn more to use against us once they are released and returned back on the streets.
Cons -
Because what if that person sentenced is actually innocent?
I can only think of one con at the moment, because I am "for" the death penalty.
Understandably there will be issues..
Life is precious, but when the criminal element takes that away, and makes us wonder even more about just how much criminals can get away with?
How often have we thought that way?
I feel that if we institute the death penalty, perform that sentence quickly, that the criminal element will realize that we, the citizens will no longer tolerate crime, and that the justice system will not fail the victims of heinous crime.
