Central El Paso- Meet the newlyweds. Kevin and Angela Connelly tied the knot Saturday, in a small ceremony with family and friends.
"We wanted something quaint, something not too big," says Kevin.
And something not too expensive. Wanting more romance than a courthouse could provide, they looked for a cheap way to wed.
Enter Ruben Escandon, the owner of From This Moment Wedding Chapel in Central El Paso. His service marries people for a lot less than a traditional wedding.
That's why the Connellys took a walk down the aisle here in Ruben's chapel. In the end, Escandon still makes a living off his work.
But the chance to make a marriage memorable, he says, is the real reason why he does what he does.
"I knew that was my niche. I knew that was my opportunity to make a difference to people....you know people are going to fall in love, they're going to want to get married and start their families and start off on the right foot."
A bad economy doesn't matter. People always want to trade vows. The low-cost approach is increasingly popular.
Ruben has married a dozen couples this month. All of them in love, trying to save a buck.
"The ceremony lasts only a half hour, but it's full of emotions, all those emotions that you cannot have at the courthouse because they will just tell you read whatever, and I declare you man and wife, goodbye,"says Angela Connelly.
The Connelly's got the wedding they wanted at a price they loved.
