New Mexico Supreme Court to hear arguments on gay marriage
Santa Fe, NM (KDBC) — The New Mexico Supreme Court is set to take up the state's same sex marriage debate on Wednesday. Eight counties now allow it.
A ruling Wednesday could legalize same sex marriage in all of the state's 33 counties.
Gay marriage became a hot button issue in August after Dona Ana County Clerk Lynn Ellins began issuing marriage licenses to gay couples. Seven other counties followed suit.
New Mexico law doesn't explicitly authorize or prohibit gay marriage, but its expected the court's ruling will change that.
