New Mexico Prisons are Locked Down
LAS CRUCES, NM — The New Mexico Corrections Department says it has locked down all of the state's prison cells and housing units to search for drugs and weapons. Officials say they're looking for anything suspicious that could compromise the safety and security of the prison staff and inmates.
The lockdown will affect all prisons in New Mexico that have state inmates, including private contract prisons. Department officials says it began the "shakedown" Wednesday and say it should last "no more than five days."
