New Mexico may issue two driver's licenses
Santa Fe, NM — A compromise could be brewing in the New Mexico legislature over a contentious law that allows illegal immigrants to obtain driver's licenses. A bill introduced this week would create two types of driver's licenses. One license would meet federal laws and could be used for boarding planes and entering federal buildings. Illegal immigrants would not be able to get that license. However, illegal immigrants could get the other the other type of license. It just wouldn't be valid outside New Mexico. In a statement, Governor Martinez calls the plan a "reasonable compromise."
