LAS CRUCES, NM — According to officials with the New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT), the speed limit on a portion of Interstate 10 from the Texas state line to Mesquite, New Mexico will soon increase.
The speed limit will increase from 65 MPH to 75 MPH, and will go into effect Wednesday, October 31.
NMDOT made the decision following a speed study.
"The change in speed will allow motorists to travel at a regulated speed on a roadway designed for the increase from 65 to 75 MPH. However, with the change, the department continues to express the need for motorists to drive the posted speed limit and to proceed with caution,” said Trent Doolittle, District One Engineer for NMDOT.
Drivers must drive 65 MPH until the new signs are installed.
