New Mexico chile harvest slowed by shortage of labor
LAS CRUCES, N.M. — Red chile harvest is still in full swing in New Mexico but labor shortages have plagued growers all year.
Chile growers in Hatch said they experienced a shortage in workers earlier this season with the green chile harvest.
The lack of labor slowed the amount of green chile that was picked up before the rains.
Now during red chile harvest, growers are seeing the same shortages from before.
They said they haven't had major losses but the shortage of workers is an issue.
