New mayor is one of three new faces elected onto Socorro City Council
Socorro, TX (KTSM) — Residents in Socorro voted for a new face to run the city.
Jesus Ruiz beat out three other candidates for a clear with 52-percent of the votes. His closest contendor was Igor Flores with 30-percent.
At his campaign party in Socorro Saturday night, Ruiz said he looks forward to working with the other newly elected Socorro City Council Members to move forward from the city's problematic past.
"For me, my biggest priority is bringing that relationship to a good level with our citizens. I know after all the scandal, the corruption, the arrests, the morale is very low and we're going to work our butts off to make sure we bring that back to the people, that our government can be something to be proud of, said Ruiz.
Rene Rodriguez defeated incumbent Willie Madrid for the Alderman at Large seat. Chito Bowling beat out Jesse Gandara Jr. for the District 4 seat on Socorro City Council.
