An interim leader has taken the Oath of Office after the military ousted Egyptian President Mohamed Morsy. It comes after days of protests calling for Morsy to step down.

Egypt's Chief Justice Adly Mansour was sworn in Today (Thursday) during a ceremony in the Supreme Constitutional Court in Cairo.

Following the ceremony, Mansour confirmed his commitment to the Egyptian people. He said, "I swear on my life that I will remain faithful and that I will respect the law and this position and that I take care of the interest of the people. I will preserve the independence of this country and all its territory."

Observers say Mansour is viewed as an independent. The 67-year-old is married and a father of three.
