New adoption center hopes to find homes for strays
Las Cruces, NM (KTSM) — An organization whose hope is to find homes for stray dogs and cats has found their own home...
ACTion Program for Animals in Las Cruces is moving to 800 W. Picacho and will open in May.
The new building boasts an adoption center where their Doña Ana Pets Alive program can operate out of.
Beforehand, the DAPA would rescue animals out of the shelters, evaluate them, and place them in foster homes.
Then they would only be able to find homes for these animals through adoption events at local pet stores.
This now changes that.
"This will allow us to be open all the time and allow our adoptables to be viewed by the public, as well as allow the public to come in and ask questions," said APA board member Valina Hamilton.
"It's going to help us a lot, free open the foster homes for those animals that are ready to find their forever homes."
Since May 2012, the DAPA program has saved more than 800 pets from euthanization.
The building also houses their pet food bank, which is open on Fridays and Saturdays.
