EL PASO--- Neighbors of a Lower Valley family reached out and raised thousands of dollars for them, after the family lost both a home and a daughter to a fire last week.

The fire happened early in the morning Thursday, Feb. 11, in the 9000 block of Cuernavaca Dr.
The girls were sleeping when the fire started, police said.

After being treated for days at the Del Sol Medical Center, 19-year-old Stephanie Olivo died Tuesday from smoke inhalation.

Her sister Melissa, 16, is still in critical condition at the Lubbock Burn Center.

Neighbors and friends collected $11,400 in cash and checks in front of the Olivo family home and also in front of the Pro Ranch Market in Far East El Paso.

"The most important thing is that we come together as a community and just be here to support a family who is in desperate need," said Arali Gonzalez, whose father is a neighbor in the community.

"We're just trying to show our love for our neighbors and for our community and trying to gather some funds to help them rebuild their house and help them with whatever debt they have to kind of help them alleviate their pain a little bit," said neighbor Josheua Trochett.

Those who want to donate can walk into any Wells Fargo or Bank of America and ask to give to the Olivo family account.
