EL PASO - A situation in northeast El Paso just doesn't smell right. One man says his neighbor feeds pigeons dog food, causing them to nest and drop feces all over his property.
"I have pigeon poop everywhere," said Heinz Landeck, who has lived in his home with his family for about ten years. Now he's in the middle of a smelly situation. He's seen his neighbor throw dog food over her wall.
"I'd say at least 100 to 200 pigeons, easy, flocking on the roof," Landeck said. "Then you see them flock over to the part after she throws the food, they sit there, they flock, they eat."
They're not just an eyesore.
"It smells horribly right over there," Landeck said.
Heinz is now worried for his family because the problem isn't going away.
"Pigeons are carriers for severe illnesses, such as toxoplasmosis is just one of them," he said.
His neighbor also leaves out buckets of standing water that he says attract mosquitos.
"She's been feeding the animals too, she's watering them," Heinz said. "That's fine, as long as you put fresh water in there, because of West Nile Virus."
He's tried talking with his neighbor, but says he just gets ignored. We tried knocking on her door, but her gate is closed off with cinder blocks. We then called her and she hung up on us.
"I even wrote her a letter but I get ignored," Heinz said. "I called animal control, health department, the public prosecutor. They've come out several times, supposedly nothing can be done."
He says some employees have had bad timing and didn't notice a smell or any other violations. But Heinz says he'll take her all the way to civil court if he has to.
"Stop feeding the pigeons, that's all I want, nothing else," he said.
Our troubleshooters team is already getting results. We called the city's Environmental Services department; they say they'll go out to the house and investigate the litter and standing water complaints.
