Nearly $1 Million Renovation For Rescue Mission Planned

Julio Lopez has lived at the Rescue Mission of El Paso for about two years. During that time, he's seen the population grow.

"When I first showed up here there were 24 people here. Now there are about 60 to 70 coming in." says Lopez.

Mission Director Blake Barrow says it's been that way since before the economy tanked. So he needs more room and better facilities.

"The men's bathroom is in horrible condition, the toilets leak, the showers are broken and it's kind of weird, the walls bleed water," says Lopez.

Repairing the bathrooms is just part of a long range plan. Barrow wants to add on to the mission, a project slated to cost about $900,000 dollars.

When it's finished it'll be about twice the size it is right now. Besides the addition that will be built on an empty lot, there will also be a second floor.
