EL PASO — "There's always the love, heartbreak factor in everything."
Her name is Hope Wright, and she's a singer/songwriter carved out of a central El Paso upbringing.
Her voice, with a sole, unplugged guitar is all that one needs to feel the lyrics of Hope Wright.
"I was kind of a wild child a lot of that gets written about," she said of her writing substance.
Her story is in her eyes, and though she keeps details private during the recorded interview, it comes out in her music.
Her father, former owner of local bars Cantina La Tuya and Wildhares was a factor in Hope's musician personality. She grew up watching bands play live, and has family influences within her generation, including Tyler Dudley, lead vocalist of Battle of the Border champs 'The DA.'
Though Hope is still cementing her style, an album is in the works.
"I write all my music, I'm composing music, i'm working on composing all the different instrumnets, trying to put it all together," said said. "In May or June I'll be releasing the EP, playing more shows and going on tour."
Hope's music, heavily influenced by the sound of Cat Power and poetic writing of Leonard Cohen, can suit cafe-goers, but is capable of mood swings, as she hopes to exhibit in her upcoming album.
"More guitar and punk rock, and throwing things.. who knows," she said. "It's all over the place. I have a different favorite band every week, a different favorite song every two hours."
Hope balances her music career with other forms of expression.
"I like to believe that i'm a true artist and I experince art in all art forms.. I paint.. take pictures," she said. "I study American Literature, love to read.. haven't owned a television in 5 years."
(Let's hope that she watched her television debut!)
Keep it rockin', El Paso.
