National Kids to Parks Day celebration at McKelligon Canyon
El Paso, TX (KTSM) — It was the 3rd annual family day at McKelligon Canyon for National Kids to Parks Day.
The event is being promoted by the National Park Trust, Texas Parks and Wildlife, the Nation Park Service, and the City of El Paso Parks and Recreation Department to encourage children and families to visit a city, state or national park, improve health and fitness and connect to nature through outdoor activities.
Saturday's event included archery, bicycle repair and fishing demostrations.
"We want kids to be physically active, sometimes there just at home with video games so it's really important to visit all the nature areas El Paso has to offer." said Carlos Rodriguez, El Paso Parks and Recreation Department .
Families also had a change to meet Chami the Squirrel from Chamizal National Park and Willy the Water Drop from TecH20.
National Kids to Parks Day is organized by the National Park Trust in an effort to encourage children to explore their local parks.
