EL PASO - Hundreds stopped by El Paso Community College today to get tested for HIV.

Today is National HIV Testing Day. Centro de Salud Familiar La Fe, along with the city's own public health departmen, offered free HIV testing.

La Fe spokesperson Estela Reyes says HIV is an epidemic here in the borderland because of a lack of education about the infection, and a stigma that's attached to getting tested.

"We have very fast rising increasing numbers of hiv infections in our community," said Reyes. "Most of them, as our records show, are among women, among Latinas, and among senior citizens."

If you didn't get a chance to get tested today, don't worry. You can make an appointment at La Fe any day of the week for free testing.

The problem is many people think they have STD and directly go to online STD services like ** without having the test. They do not want to go to the hospital due to the social stigma attached to it.
