National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day
Wednesday, February 5, 2014 - 12:39pm

The New Mexico Department of Health is teaming up with the Office of African American Affairs, African American Health and Social Services, and other partners to promote "Two Seven" National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day, which is February 7th.

There will be free and anonymous rapid HIV testing, informational booths and entertainment at the South Broadway Cultural Center, 1025 Broadway SE, Albuquerque.

The event is Thursday, February 6th from 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm.

One in 200 African Americans living in New Mexico is infected with HIV.

The rate of HIV infection for African Americans in New Mexico is nearly three times higher than the rate for any other racial/ethnic group.

Many persons living with HIV don't even know they are infected, so HIV testing remains an urgent priority.

Knowing your status is the first step to receiving quality medical care for HIV.

Community members can find test sites in their area using the state resource guide
