A woman was killed in an car wreck in East El Paso. Two others, including a small child, were hurt.
Police said the driver of a white Pontiac was turning from Lomaland onto Gateway West at about 10 p.m. Thursday when the driver swerved and hit the overpass.
Emergency crews rushed the woman driver to a hospital where she died. A man who was a passenger and a small child who was in the backseat were also injured. Paramedics took them to a hospital with minor injuries.
Police said it's unclear what caused the driver to hit the concrete wall and investigators are doing everything they can to determine what happened.
"For an unknown reason, the driver did swerve off of the roadway and into the overpass of I-10 so that's going to be part of the investigation,” said Mike Baranyay with the El Paso Police Department. “Hopefully, the male passenger will be able to give some insight as to what was occurring in the vehicle or what lead to the collision."
Police say the child was properly restrained in a car seat. They said the driver was not wearing a seat belt. They don't know yet if the man was wearing his seat belt.
Police closed down the area for several hours during their investigation.
