The murder trial of a man accused of shooting and killing another man in the parking lot of an airport began today.

Twenty-eight year old David Quiñonez is accused of shooting and killing 32 year-old Jimmy Romero in a parked car at the El Paso International Airport in February 2011.

Police say a woman and the two men were sitting in the car when Quiñonez shot Romero several times in the chest. Quiñonez was arrested shortly after and has remained in jail since the incident happened.

Today, the jury heard testimony from a police officer who was dispatched to the scene that day.

A firearm expert from the Texas Department of Public Safety was also called on to testify. He matched the bullets found at the scene to the gun allegedly used by Quiñonez to kill Romero.

David Quiñonez is from Roswell, New Mexico, and has a lengthy wrap sheet.

In 2010, he was charged with driving with a suspended license.

He was convicted of a felony for fleeing from a police officer in 2006, and in 2003, he was found guilty of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
