Murder Suspect Faces Jail Time After Hospital Release

EL PASO — An altercation involving three individuals resulted in one man dead, one woman in critical condition and a man in police custody facing murder charges.
Wayne Thomas, 44 was arrested by police Monday after a foot pursuit in northeast El Paso. He was sought for the murder of Marshal Gene Dorris, who police said was trying to defend 52-year-old Debra Bucanan, who had been stabbed by Mitchell during an argument early Monday morning. Mitchell allegedly stabbed Dorris repeatedly and then fled the scene. Dorris and the female victim were taken to the hospital where one the female survived but remained in critical condition. Dorris died from his injuries.
Mitchell was located Monday afternoon, and was caught after a foot pursuit. Police said he was taken to a hospital for treatment of self-inflicted injuries and will be booked into the El Paso County Jail upon his release.
