Mountain Road Warning
Alamogordo - Lincoln National Forest officials are warning motorists to use caution on mountain roads as spring
arrives after above normal snowfall this winter.
Many forest roads are still snowpacked, wet or extremely muddy, and many forest roads are impassable, especially at higher elevations.
During the spring thaw, Forest Supervisor Jacqueline Buchanan says a road may look dry and solid but a distance farther it may be very muddy with 1- to 3-foot snow drifts.
She is urging visitors to make safety a top priority.
Finally, motorists are reminded to observe and respect barricades, which are intended to protect roads and soils during times they are most susceptible to damage.
