EL PASO — A motorcyclist was killed in an overnight crash in East El Paso.
According to Darrel Petry, Spokesperson for the El Paso Police Department, the 24-year-old motorcyclist was traveling southbound on Loop 375 near Montana when he lost control of his 2012 Honda motorcycle and crashed into a guardrail. The impact of the crash led to his decapitation.
Petry said investigators believe the motorcyclist was speeding.
"If we would just slow down beginning with that. There's other things that we need to do: don't drink and drive and obey traffic control devices, but if we would slow down we can reduce the number of traffic fatalities we're seeing occurring not only in El Paso, but probably across the state," said Petry.
Police said the motorcyclist was wearing a helmet.
Loop 375 from Montana to Spur 601 was blocked off for several hours while police cleared the scene of the crash.
