Motorcyclist killed in Anthony Gap crash


New Mexico State Police have identified the motorcyclist killed in a crash on Anthony Gap this morning as 42-year-old Mark Sharples.

Police say a man drove his SUV into oncoming traffic and hit Shaples. He was then ejected from the motorcycle and was pronounced dead at the scene..

The driver, 37-year-old Daniel Sapien, was taken to University Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

The crash is still under investigation; NewsChannel9 will provides updates as more information is released.



New Mexico State Police have confirmed that the motorcyclist involved in a crash on the Anthony Gap around 8 a.m. Friday morning has died.

Authorities say the crash involved an SUV and the motorcycle in between I-10 and MM 8 on the Anthony Gap (NM 404) around 8 a.m. The road was closed until after noon while police investigated the crash.

As a result of the road closure, Doña Ana County Community College Gadsden Center was forced to cancel classes for Friday.

NMSP have yet to identify the motorcyclist or say what led up to the deadly crash. NewsChannel 9 will update this story as soon as information becomes available.
