A motorcyclist was killed after an accident in Far East El Paso.

It happened on Zaragoza and Saul Kleinfield just before 11:30 p.m Wednesday.

Police said the motorcyclist was speeding when it hit a car turning onto Saul Kleinfield.

The motorcycle slid almost a block away from where it happened. Police said its not unusual because the motorcyclist was speeding.

Police said the victim appears to be in his early 20's and he was wearing a helmet. Police had a message for anyone on the roads.

"I think the reality is when you're riding a motorcycle, you have to understand the motorcycle doesn't offer you a lot of protection. We ask that drivers remain vigilant and pay attention to motorcyclists and make sure they keep an eye out for them but the motorcyclists also have to take some responsibility in ensuring their safety," said Mike Baranyay with The El Paso Police Department.

The driver of the car stopped and answered questions from officers.

Police said it's unclear if the driver will face charges.

Zaragoza was closed for several hours during the investigation.
