EL PASO — A motorcyclist died after he hit the center median of the freeway in west El Paso.

Police said the 29-year-old motorcyclist was speeding on I-10 and Asarco at 2:30 a.m. Sunday. They said he tried to pass a car using the left shoulder of the freeway.

The motorcycle hit the car causing the motorcycle to crash into the center median.

The motorcyclist died at a hospital.

Police said he was wearing a helmet.

This is the seventh motorcycle fatality of 2012 compared to three during this same time period in 2011.
