Mother Accused of Murder on Trial
El Paso — The trial continues for a 30-year-old mother who is accused of killing her 3-year-old daughter, Jacqueline Gonzalez, back in November 2007. Yara Perez is charged with capital murder and faces 2 child abuse counts.
In 2007, El Paso Police say they found the 3-year-old's body in the trunk of Perez's car. They say, they found Gonzalez lifeless, blood coming from her mouth, looking blue, with no obvious signs of life coming from the little girl.
Officer Martin Martinez with the El Paso Police Department took the stand today and recounted how officials found the body and arrested Perez and her boyfriend, Francisco Castaneda. Castaneda was convicted of capital murder in 2010 and was sentenced to life in prison without parole.
