More Young Voters Support Obama, Romney Wins 70+ Demographic

A generational divide is emerging when measuring who voters back for president.

A new gallup poll shows Mitt Romney holding a solid edge over President Obama among registered voters aged 40 and over.

Romney's strongest support comes from those 70 and older.

But President Obama easily leads Romney among voters younger than 40, with his strongest support among those 18 to 29 years old.

Romney leads Obama by 14 percentage points in the over 70 demographic.

Obama counters with a 21 percent advantage among those voters aged 18 to 29.

The race is most competitive among voters between ages 50 and 59. They favor Romney slightly by 3 percentage points.

The gallup survey was based on over 15,000 tracking interviews with registered voters between April and May 16th.
