More Parking Downtown?
EL PASO - El Paso city leaders are trying to give the public what they want, more parking spaces downtown.
Today, city council voted to remove some reserved parking for several city employees and convert those spaces into metered parking.
Daryl Cole from the El Paso's Department of Transportation says they're taking action to increase the turnover for businesses downtown.
"Depending on the actions with the county, with the federal government and all of those different areas, we may have as much as twice the amount of parking. Because we're going to meter more areas it looks we possibly will or at a minimum go and identify more areas,"
As of now, there are over 1,600 metered spots downtown and the department of transportation is hoping to double that.
