The El Paso International Airport is hoping to expand non-stop service from the Sun City. El Paso International employees presented their plan at Thursday's Special City Council meeting. The airport is looking to entice more air carriers to do business with the Sun City.

City officials say more and more people have expressed wanting more non-stop flights to-and-from major cities that don't require layovers.

The problem, officials say, is that many airlines are reducing their capacity and number of trips from not just El Paso, but many other cities in the U.S..

The airport's marketing strategy includes showcasing just how many people businesses would be catering to.

"We are not just a city of 600,000, we are a region of 2.5 million people. And so they've done a lot of work going out and marketing that fact and others like that to airlines talking about why it makes sense to invest in more non-stop service from El Paso," Susie Byrd, Representative of District 2 said.

Officials say they are also bumping up the incentives so more airlines will be tempted to add service to El Paso.
