More than 300 people got their flu shots Friday in Las Cruces at the New Mexico Department of Health's flu shot clinic at Saint Genevieve's Parish.

During the first clinic on October 18, more than 480 people received a flu shot and the clinic even ran out of the vaccinations.

Debby Hanus, a registered nurse with the department of health, said they brought more doses of the vaccine this time that's designed to protect people against multiple strains of the flu.

It protects you against four strains of flu," Hanus said. "It protects against two type A and two strain of B so it's a very good form."

It is still considered somewhat early in the flu season and as of last check the first documented case of the flu has not been made in Dona Ana County, according to Hanus.

The department will host a third clinic on November 15 at Saint Genevieve's Parish and as a reminder, the clinics are primarily intended for uninsured residents.
