EL PASO - More than 180 wanted felons in the area are now off the streets, thanks to the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force.
The felons were captured and arrested by 80 law enforcement officers, from 11 different agencies, in a week-long operation, called Operation Sandstorm II.
Despite the success of Operation Sandstorm II, the U.S. Marshals Service said there's still plenty of work to be done; more than 100 felons are still on the loose.
"We're targeting the 10 percent of the population that commits 90 percent of the felony crimes...if we can get these guys and get them into jail...the opportunity for them to commit another crime is taken out of the equation,” Michael Sharboneau, U.S. Marshals Service.
The task force carries out several busts like these every year. The U.S. Marshals Service said if you're wanted by authorities, the best thing to do is turn yourself in.
