Mobile Home Fire Considered Suspicious

Tuesday, February 28, 2012 - 11:13pm

A Horizon City mobile home caught fire and the fire marshal is calling it suspicious.

Neighbors woke up and noticed the fire at about 4:30 a.m. Tuesday.

"We came outside and there was a big fire,” said Dwayne Shepard. “It was just in flames...really big."

Because of the size of the flames, and the strong wind, Shepard was concerned the fire would spread to his home.

"The wind was blowing,” said Shepard. “My neighbor came out...he was putting water...wetting down his place and I was doing the same... putting water on top of my mobile home and on top of my grass and on the trees so that it wouldn't flame because the embers were like the 4th of July. They lit up the sky out here."

Investigators said the mobile home was abandoned and the power and gas were turned off.

The ATF, Horizon City and El Paso fire departments are investigating.

The cause of the fire is unknown.
