El Paso, TX (KTSM) — UTEP fans across the borderland are invited to celebrate the new school year and Miner football season during Minerpalooza 2013.
The event is scheduled from 6 p.m. to midnight Friday, Sept. 6, in the P-9 parking lot located at the north end of Sun Bowl Stadium.
The event is free and open to the public.
This year, the annual event will take place at a new location due to construction of the new Centennial Plaza.
The traditional pep rally will feature the UTEP Marching Band, the Golddiggers dance team, UTEP Cheerleaders and Paydirt Pete.
New UTEP Football Head Coach Sean Kugler will help kick off the new season.
Other Minerpalooza attractions include live entertainment on two stages, inflatable obstacle courses, a Kids Zone, a beverage garden, Pete’s Pavilion, food vendors and game booths sponsored by campus student organizations.
Friday also marks the University’s official re-launch of Orange Fridays.
Everyone in El Paso, not just the UTEP community, is asked to show their University pride every Friday by sporting UTEP Orange.
On Saturday, Sept. 7, Miner fans can begin tailgating for the 6 p.m. season-opening football game against the University of New Mexico Lobos as early as 8 a.m. in perimeter campus parking lots.
Inner campus lots open at 2 p.m.; however, space is limited due to ongoing Campus Transformation projects.
Fans can access information about tailgating at tailgating.utep.edu.
