If you missed out on the Oktoberfest tickets, you can still get a taste at the 20 annual German-American Oktoberfest Night Run to be held Saturday at Freedom Crossing.

The run starts at 6 p.m. and features an 8-K race and 5-K fun run/walk. Pre-race activities start at 4 p.m. and include the sale of German coffee, pastries, soft and spirited drinks, snow cones and more.

After the race, stay to enjoy German bratwurst, beer, live music and the German Schuhplattler Dance Group who will perform their traditional dances. Children’s activities include a bounce house, games and the Freedom Crossing play areas.
Participants have the option of running the 8-kilometer race or walking the 5-kilometer fun walk. Children can ride their bikes or scooters and moms bring out the jogging strollers.

“When the Germans first approached us to possibly organize the run together, we thought it was a great idea due the festive activity that would attract numerous people,” said Eric Hildreth, Family Moral, Welfare and Recreation community recreation division chief. “So we went ahead and tried it. Participation was huge the first year, and it has continued to grow even more each year.”

The race includes individual and military unit team division 8k races. The top three military teams will win unit-fund donations. Early registration is under way and costs $20 per person.

Register online at active.com by 6 p.m. Sept. 12. Runners can also complete early registration at Freedom Crossing from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Sept. 9 through 13. Late registration runs from 3 to 5:30 p.m. Saturday at Freedom Crossing.
