More than 40 officers at Fort Bliss lose their jobs
FORT BLISS — At least 44 Army officers within the 1st Armored Division at Fort Bliss were selected for involuntary separation or early retirement and more could be notified this week.
Fort Bliss spokesman LTC Lee Peters said that all 44 of those officers were Captains. They were part of an approximate 1,100 Captains Army-wide being pushed out of the ranks.
Starting this week, approximately 500 Majors Army-wide are expected to be told that they no longer have a job. Peters said he does not know how many of those Majors are from Fort Bliss.
"In order to meet Congressionally mandated end-strength numbers, select US Army Captains and Majors - based on certain criteria - were considered for separation or retirement," Peters said.
