Military same-sex spouse benefits could start next month
NBC News — Wednesday the Pentagon is expected to announce that same-sex spouses of military members will become eligible for benefits as early as next month.
A senior defense official told NBC News that the Pentagon will extend the same benefits to legally married same-sex couples that are provided to heterosexual couples.
That includes healthcare, housing, and other benefits.
For service members who are stationed in a state where same-sex marriage is illegal, the military will provide up to 10 days leave for them to travel to a state where it is legal.
