In the fast-paced world of a Soldier, getting a quick meal can often times mean sacrificing good nutrition.
The Fort Bliss dining facilities (DFAC) are stepping up to compete with the fast-food market, by offering a grab-n-go service for troops.

This week the "Strike Hard" DFAC opened their grab-n-go line during breakfast and lunch hours for the Soldiers of 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division.

SPC Ajina Patterson said, "It's a quicker way for them to grab their food because as Soldiers, nowadays, we're always on the go.  So with that being said, they just get their food and then they go."

PFC Carlos Avilez is already pleased with the service. "I'm glad they started doing it.  It's a lot more convenient than waiting in line on the regular line when people have a lot more time for lunch and there's people that are in a hurry like me. you know, grab and go, and back to work," he said.

SFC Nina McMillon, the DFAC manager, said it's all about being the restaurant of choice - with great service. "With us competing with Burger King, McDonald's, and everything else, we're trying to implement something like that, but also kind of keep it healthy as well.  That's our main reason, really, for opening up grab and go, because that appeals to soldiers. it's going to only get better,"  said McMillon.

She added, "Today was our trial and error period, we had a couple of little bumps with the Coke machine and Pepsi machine and our juice machine, but in order to make sure the Soldiers got something to drink we just used juice jugs and they were happy with that. As the week goes on, you'll see more items out there.  So it's only going to get better as the week goes on, and the months."

Right now, the service is only available at the 2nd Brigade, 1st Armored Division DFAC.  Soon, it will be available at all of them.
