Fort Bliss soldier dies from injuries suffered in Afghanistan

El Paso, TX (KTSM) — A Fort Bliss soldier died Friday from injuries he suffered while on deployment in Afghanistan.
He is identified as Staff Sergeant Robert E. Thomas Jr., 24, who is originally from Fontana, California.
Thomas was injured in a non-combat related incident on April 21, 2013 and was being treated at Brook Army Medical Center at Fort Sam Houston, Texas before he died.
He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 36th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, Fort Bliss, Texas.
