Fort Bliss, TX (KTSM) — Soldiers, friends and families of the Brigade Special Troops Battalion, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division, gathered at Joshua W. Soto Physical Fitness Center, April 9, to attend a ceremony where Command Sgt. Maj. Richard F. Falk Jr., the senior enlisted member of the “Renegades,” transferred responsibility for the battalion to Command Sgt. Maj. Ira L. Weaver Jr.
The event began with red roses being presented to Falk’s wife, Nicole, and yellow roses being presented to Weavers’s wife, Kelsha.
Lt. Col. Larry C. Niedringhaus, the 3rd BSTB commander, officiated the ceremony and remarked on Falk’s success.
“Since Command Sgt. Maj. Falk’s arrival in July 2011, he has led this battalion to its high water mark, both in garrison and in Afghanistan, with calm, professional competence,” said Niedringhaus. “The Renegades and Bulldog Brigade owe him a debt of gratitude for his leadership, competence, care of Soldiers and unwavering dedication to excellence.”
Weaver then thanked the Renegades for their contributions to his success.
“I would like to express my gratitude to all the Renegade Soldiers for the many things they have accomplished and endured over the last two years,” said Falk.
“Their dedication and commitment to this great organization and its members is incredible. It is what makes the 3-1 Brigade Special Troops Battalion a success in everything we do.”
After assuming responsibility, Weaver, previously the 1st Armored Division acting chief of staff G6 sergeant major, briefly spoke to his battalion.
“Today is a special day for my family and me,” said Weaver. “Having the opportunity to serve the highly motivated Soldiers of the Renegade Battalion is truly an honor. Soldiers of the Renegade Battalion, I am here to serve you in every way possible, and I look forward to working with each of you.”
