Microsoft profit up
Microsoft reported quarterly sales and profits rose from a year ago and easily trounced Wall Street's forecasts. The Redmond, Washington-based software giant said its net income in its fiscal first quarter jumped to 5-point-2 billion dollars and sales rose to 18-and-a-half billion.
However, Windows sales continued to slump, sinking seven percent in the quarter. The completely redesigned Windows Eight operating system has largely failed to take off with consumers, but the rest of Microsoft's businesses gained steam.
