MEXICO CITY - Authorities in Mexico announced the arrest of the suspected leader of the la famillia drug cartel, one of the country's most notorious cartels.

A Mexican federal security spokesman said Jose de Jesus Mendez, also known as "El Chango" or "The Monkey," was captured in central Mexico at a highway checkpoint. The spokesman said no casualties were reported during the arrest.

Until last year, La Famillia, or "The Family," was among Mexico's most feared and powerful cartels, but the death of its top boss split the gang into factions.

Rivals within the gang now fight over trafficking routes and marijuana fields in western Mexico.

so he is captured, Mexico with its anemic 5% conviction rate, not to mention corrupted politicians, all way way down to the cop on the street, El Chango will be back in business in no time flat. Perhaps a stay at one of Mexicos "Resort" cells in the prison system, for a while plus a lot of payoff money, and soon he will be out on the street. How many of these anouncements/press parades have we seen on this site this last year? How many sentences & convictions have we seen? ZIP!! NADA!!
