Mayor Considers Billboard Veto

POSTED: Thursday, July 16, 2009 - 7:35am

UPDATED: Wednesday, February 17, 2010 - 3:24pm

A controversial billboard ordinace may get the boot before it goes into effect. Mayor John Cook tonight tells Newschannel 9 he's considering a veto. Yesterday in a vote of 5 to 3 city council members approved the measure which bans the building of new billboards within the city. The ordinance also limits the number of digital billboards to 15. Cook says the ordinace gives an unfair competitive advantage to clear channel which owns most of the billboard space in the city. It would take six votes on the council to override a veto.
