Maximum Penalty Handed to Woman Convicted of Murdering Husband
EL PASO — Jurors have also decided how long Laura Juarez will spend behind bars.
They handed down the maximum pentaly of 99 years in prison Friday for the murder of 34-year-old Salvador Juarez.
In February, Laura Juarez killed Salvador by hitting him with her car after he walked out of their home from an argument. Court documents revealed Laura then took his body back to their apartment and did not call 911 until the next morning.
In addition to jail time -- she will also have to pay a $10 thousand fine.
The mother of the victim, says she feels justice was served.
"I felt sadness.. we aren't bad people and we love her very much.. but it she was looking for it."
The jury came to the sentencing after absorbing the testimony of five witnesses this morning. This included two friends of Laura Juarez, Laura's father and the father of Salvador Juarez. A detective was also called to the stand.
